Safer play: what can be set up before you need it

Three settings worth more than any strategy
Deposit limit. The most effective, because it acts before everything else: the money never reaches the balance. Set on a good day, it protects the bad one.
Loss limit. It acts when the balance already exists and the session has soured. It is the only mechanism that interrupts the “win it back” sequence, which costs more than the original loss.
Session reminder. A notice of elapsed time breaks the hypnosis of the screen. It prevents nothing; it gives back the sense of how much time has passed, which is precisely what gets lost.
The order matters: all three are set before the first deposit, because afterwards raising a limit usually carries a waiting period and tightening one does not. That asymmetry exists on purpose and works in your favour.
The pause, in two stages
The platform's safer play policy describes the path like this:
- A 24-hour cooling-off. You choose what to step away from — the casino, the
sportsbook or the whole platform — and for how long. During those 24 hours you cannot bet on the chosen part, although rewards already accumulated can still be claimed.
- Self-exclusion. Only released after the cooling-off. Here you choose the
scope and the duration again, including the permanent option. During the period you cannot sign in, you lose accumulated progress and you claim nothing that is being held.
The maximum period is five years, or permanent. On the permanent option the account is blocked for good and another one cannot be created.
Worth knowing in advance that a pause you asked for is also the fifth most common reason an account will not open — and in that case no support desk can move the clock forward. The subject is in signing in.
Five signs worth more than any number
- Playing with money that had another purpose.
- Raising the bet to win back a loss.
- Hiding from somebody close how much time or how much money.
- Needing to play to feel what you used to feel.
- Trying to stop and not managing it.
